 AARTO is an acronym for the Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences. It is guided by an Act of Parliament (Act No. 46 of 1998) and is currently implemented as a pilot in the Johannesburg and Tshwane Metropolitan areas. It is legislation aimed at providing for administrative management and adjudications of road traffic offences outside the Criminal Justice system.
